The Cutting Edge

All the fires flame pictures are created using low energy LED’s.  The appliances are operated by various control systems such as the fully-functioning downloadable App direct from your phone or tablet, this allows you complete control of the fire with a multitude of functions including the ability to dim the flame effect, turn the heat on and off with the digital thermostat and even program your fire to turn on and off with the 7-day timer.

Common Questions About Modern Electric Fireplaces

People have many questions about modern electric fireplaces. Some of them look so real, and the simulated flames often leave people wondering how an electric fireplace works. They share similar aesthetic benefits with real fireplaces, but they eliminate some pain points that are associated with wood or other fuel-burning fireplaces. If you are new to electric fireplaces, welcome. We are here to help you discover their benefits and features. These are some of the most common questions that people ask.

Do Modern Electric Fireplaces Give Off Heat?

Today’s electric fireplaces give off heat similar to a space heater. You can find models with timers for heating if you prefer more flexibility with heating options. Some models give off more heat than others. They heat up quickly and work well to take the chill out of the air in a room on a cold day.

Typically, only the heater and vent where the heat comes out are hot to the touch on an electric fireplace. Although there are flames, they are not real fire. Having a cool-to-the-touch design on an electric fireplace helps provide a little more peace of mind for parents of small children or people who have curious pets. Some designs also have heating vents placed at the top and can be installed at a higher level for added safety of children or pets. For example, an electric fireplace with a heater can be installed higher on a wall than a pet or a small child can reach.

Do Electric Fireplaces Heat a Room?

Electric fireplaces do an excellent job of heating a room if they are the adequate size for it. An authorized dealer can help you select the right options to consider for the size of room you want to heat. If the room is large and open, there is also the option to add multiple fireplace units. Because they do not require hearths, chimneys, flues, or vents, it is much easier to achieve the look you want and go beyond the limitations that fuel-burning fireplaces have.

Keep in mind that electric fireplaces today heat up very quickly. In comparison, it can take a fuel-burning fireplace longer to heat a room than an efficient and modern electric fireplace. When you want to feel warmer faster, an electric unit is an excellent choice. There is also no intense or burning heat close to the unit. Electric units have fireboxes with special designs that keep safety and user comfort in mind.

Are Electric Fireplaces Tacky?

Although some cheap units from discount stores may look little tacky, high-quality electric fireplaces are far from it. If electric fireplaces that come in wood or faux stone encasements designed to have a gap between them and a wall are what come to mind when you think of tacky fireplaces, keep reading. There are designs today that eliminate gaps and other aesthetic deficiencies. They have realistic flames and designs that make them stunning.

Also, the placement of an electric fireplace may determine if it looks beautiful or out of place. Interior designers know how to work electric fireplaces into nearly any room’s decor, and there is plenty of versatility in sizes, shapes, and styles today. Our fireplaces have designs that mimic modern fuel-based fireplaces, such as three-sided glass designs. By curating ceramic logs, fire glass, LED lighting, and other features, we bring electric fireplace designs as close to real fireplaces as they can get.

Are Modern Electric Fires Expensive to Run?

Controlling the cost of an electric fireplace is easier when using it for a specific time. Most electric fireplaces today have a 1500W heat output. The easiest way to calculate the cost of running such a unit is to multiply the wattage by the number of hours in a day and divide that by 1,000. For a 1500W unit, the formula is 1,500 x 24 ÷ 1,000. Multiply the result by the cost per kilowatt-hour that the energy provider charges. That is the cost to run the unit for 24 hours, and the cost per hour can be found by dividing the cost per 24 hours by 24. Multiply that number by the number of hours you plan to use the unit each day to see exactly how much running it costs.

To provide an example, imagine that an electricity provider charges $.18 per kilowatt-hour. The selected fireplace has a heat output of 1500W, and you plan to run the heat setting for 6 hours per day.

1,500 x 24 ÷ 1,000 = 36

36 x .18 = 6.48

6.48 ÷ 24 = .27

.27 x 6 = 1.62

Using the formula in the previous paragraph, this means that the unit costs about $1.62 to run per day. If a fireplace has a different wattage, use that number instead of 1,500 in the first part of the equation. However, heating units with multiple intensity settings may use less energy for lower settings. When only the flame setting is on without the heat, the cost to use it may only be about a penny per hour, depending on electricity costs per kilowatt-hour. If you want a fireplace mostly for the ambiance of the flames, an electric unit is a winner. There is no need to use wood or fuel to enjoy the flames.

Are There Any Realistic Electric Fireplaces?

On an electric fireplace, the fuel bed is the portion of the unit where the simulated flames appear. It is a critical component of an electric fireplace flame’s ability to look realistic. Our units contain fuel beds that are specially curated to look realistic. They look at realistic logs and embers. We use fire glass, ceramic logs, LED lights, and special media mixes to create authentic-looking fireplaces. When homeowners look at their fireplaces, we want them to see the same beauty and depth as real flames, logs, and embers. Also, we do not want people to worry about spaces between fireplaces and walls that make them look less realistic. We offer standalone designs that are perfect as centerpieces in a room, in-wall units, and more. Our product page provides plenty of design ideas for our electric fireplaces in modern spaces.

Can a TV Go Above an Electric Fireplace?

One advantage that electric fireplaces offer in comparison with the ones that have real flames is that electric units offer much more design versatility. For instance, they do not need to be at floor level or meet safety design requirements related to real fires. While TVs are not recommended to be placed above gas or wood fireplaces, they are typically safe to place above electric units. The heating vents are usually angled to blow outward or downward from where the electric fireplace is positioned.

Many people like the added ambiance and low light of a fireplace below a TV. We offer a variety of electric fireplace designs that can fit into the wall or on the outside of it. For people who prefer lower light when the TV is on and brighter light at other times, there are also units with adjustable flame light settings.

Do Electric Fireplaces Need a Flue?

The good news is that electric fireplaces do not need a flue. Also, there is no need to worry about constructing a chimney or maintaining it. Because electric fireplace units do not have real flames or use any form of fuel, they do not require a ventilation strategy. Think of them as electric space heaters with the added benefit of a fireplace look. This also means that there is no need to worry about harmful gases or smoke filling the room. People who are hesitant to use fireplaces because of such risks can appreciate the benefits and realistic look of modern electric fireplaces.

Do Electric Fireplaces Need a Hearth?

Yet another benefit of electric fireplaces is that they do not need a hearth. If you like the look of a hearth and choose to put an insert into a wall to look more realistic, you can certainly add one for added aesthetic beauty. State safety codes usually have specific requirements for hearth dimensions when it comes to wood-burning or gas fireplaces.

However, you do not need to worry about such codes since electric fireplaces do not use combustible materials and do not have real flames. Additionally, since they do not produce real fires, they are not significant fire risks. Insurance companies often assign higher rates when there is a wood-burning fireplace in the home. People who choose an electric fireplace instead may avoid a potential rate increase.

Do Electric Fireplaces Make Crackling Sounds?

Today, modern electric-powered fireplaces can even make crackling sounds. Some have audio features to provide that extra touch. A crackling sound can be soothing and add to the ambiance that the flames and backlights bring to the room. However, not all electric fireplaces have crackling sounds or audio. If audio is high on your list of priorities, be sure to ask about units that have such features. Also, some units connect with other connected smart devices that can add crackling sounds. This may not be an ideal solution, but it is an option for someone who already has an electric fireplace and does not want to invest in a different one right now.
